MY BIO: Marilyn Smith has been involved with WPA since it opened its doors in 2005. She is dedicated to the school – its values, charter, and people. She grew up in the greater SLC area, graduated from the University of Utah, and worked as a foster care caseworker with the Utah Division of Child and Family Services. After spending 10 years raising her 3 children, she returned to work as a T.A. with WPA in grades K, 3, and 6. This will be her 7th year teaching, and she is excited to teach 5th grade – her happy place - again this year.
Mrs. Smith enjoys hiking, reading, listening to '80's New Wave music, rollerblading, going to the theater, cooking, singing, eating dark chocolate, doing puzzles & Sudoku, and watching Netflix. She also loves everything about teaching and learning! She has a passion for inspiring students to appreciate great literature, math, science & history. She has visited 49 states and many of the lower Canadian provinces. (Her goal is to visit all 50 states & travel to every continent.) She spent 3 years living near Boston, Massachusetts, where United States history really came alive for her & is looking forward to sharing her patriotism & love of the U.S.A. with students. 😊
